Mummy wanted me to take my shower,
but I hate showers! I don't like water trickling down
my skin, it makes me feel ticklish. So I resisted.
Mummy was angry, she pulled me to the bathroom.
I shouted: "I want close the door! I want close the door!"
which was what they teach me in school that when I
say "I want" something, most of the time I will get it.
I do not want to go into the bathroom!
This was what happened to one of my student.
I heard him saying " I want close the door" one day
when I stopped him from pushing another boy and
put him on a calm down chair. The door in the classroom
was already closed when he said that.
What it means is that he "does not want", in this case,
the calm down chair. When a child with ASD say something
peculiar or seemed non-applicable to the context, think
back. Was there any incident that relates to what he say,
or were there any shows that might have triggered it.
When we know the root of his behaviour, we can then
tackle and possibly replace it with a more appropriate one.
